Cathedral Window

cathedral window

The spirits walk past me towards the cathedral window. They pause at the tomb and then move on, merging into the light. As I sit, my thoughts are replaced with stillness and I walk with the spirits.

In Durham Cathedral spirits walk past me towards the light shining down from the Rose window. They pause at the tombs, and as they move on their individual forms become less clear. They become merged with the one light beyond the window. The illusions of separateness, such as the patterns and colours, shapes and forms visible on this side are left behind. The window, like a mantra, introduces an awareness of existence beyond thought. We can only experience it, if we leave behind thoughts of separateness. As I sit, my thoughts are replaced with stillness and I begin to walk with the spirits that walk past me. - Mike Heseltine
